Following
many years of economic downturn that saw many sectors
of the Kenya economy almost grind to a halt, a big number
of Kenyans left the country for greener pastures abroad.
But the situation seems to have improved enough to
convince those Kenyans abroad to think of coming back
or participate in various ways in the economic, political
and social development of their country. The turnaround
in the economic fortunes of the country is the motivation
to encourage Kenyans in the Diaspora to invest in the country.
This forum will prepare for an annual event to bring Kenyans living and working
abroad back home for a week of interacting, exchanging
views and sharing experiences with their fellow citizens.
The idea is to provide
a forum/platform/environment for a regular and continous
engagement between Kenya citizens who live abroad and
those at home, so that the two communities are integrated
so as to participate meaningfully in all areas and sectors
for national development.
The Government, the
private sector and the civil society now recognize that
this group of Kenyans can no longer be ignored. |
